The Burma Center is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to empowering Burmese Americans and the Battle Creek Community through advocacy, engagement, and education to support the whole person.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Burma Center's staff, programs, and execution of its mission and vision.
The ED will demonstrate a commitment to, an understanding, and unwavering support of the mission of the Burma Center: To empower Burmese Americans and the Battle Creek Community through advocacy, engagement, and education to support the whole person.
*Responsibilities* *Leadership & Management:* * Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
* Demonstrate and model the organization’s mission, vision, and commitment to equity.
* Actively engage and energize volunteers, board members, event committees, community members, partnering organizations, and funders.
* Develop, maintain, and support a strong board of directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction.
* Lead, coach, develop, and retain staff to ensure excellent service delivery.
Show commitment to building a pipeline of talent and succession plans to ensure the organization's future success.
* Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
* Manage the Burma Center building and property.
This includes ensuring proper maintenance and repairs, managing tenants, and rental fees for building use.
*Financial Management and Fundraising:* * Work with staff and board of directors to prepare and implement a comprehensive budget.
* Research funding sources, oversee the development of fundraising plans and write funding proposals to increase and ensure adequate funding to support operations and programming.
* Provide the board of directors with comprehensive, regular reports on the organization's revenues and expenditure.
*Community Relations/Advocacy* * Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
* Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.
* Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, community partners, and local/state leaders to help achieve the goals of the Burma Center.
* Build awareness about Burmese culture and advocate for the Burmese community.
* Develop and nurture regular communication with funders to celebrate wins and their return on investments.
*Qualifications* The ED will be thoroughly committed to the Burma Center’s mission and demonstrate an excellent understanding of Burmese culture and the unique needs of Burmese people in Battle Creek/the United States.
All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.
Specific requirements include: * Possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
* 7-8 years of senior management experience; track record of effectively leading outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies to achieve impact.
* Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
* Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
* Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
* Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage many stakeholders and cultures.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; persuasive and passionate.

* Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
* Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
Build awareness and understanding of Burmese culture, history, and the challenges faced by Burmese people in Battle Creek and the United States.
* Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
* Fluent in at least one Burmese dialect is strongly preferred.
