The University of Olivet, a liberal arts institution with an historical commitment to inclusion, diversity, and social justice, seeks an Assistant Professor of Psychology to join a vibrant, growing psychology program serving undergraduate and graduate students both on-campus in Olivet, Michigan and online globally.
Students from underrepresented groups constitute 26% of the current student body, with almost 20% of the student body identifying as African American.
Approximately half of the student body is Pell grant eligible.
Members of historically underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
There are two positions to fill.
These positions have primary assignments in the on-campus undergraduate programs located in Olivet, Michigan.
Opportunities to teach at the graduate level as well as in our online degree completion program are possible.
Hires at other ranks may be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications.
Both positions will be expected to teach a variety of courses in psychology and participate in the liberal arts core curriculum.
Previous college teaching experience is preferred.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Psychology or related field is required; ABD may be considered.
Position #1: Applicant has completed graduate coursework and/or has an interest in teaching courses in research methodology, behavioral statistics, biopsychology, and/or health psychology.
Position #2: Applicant has completed graduate coursework and/or has an interest in teaching courses in introduction to psychology, social psychology, critical thinking, cognition, and developmental psychology.
Candidates must demonstrate successful teaching at the undergraduate level.
Successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to teaching and mentoring students in an inclusive, ethnically diverse environment.
We seek candidates who are open to innovation and collaboration, who embrace Olivet’s relationship-based approach to pedagogy, and who embody commitment to inclusivity.
Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating problem-based and solution-oriented approaches to teaching and to scholarship that center the perspectives of historically disadvantaged or underrepresented communities.
Position Details: Full-time, tenure-track, faculty members teach 24 credit hours (or the equivalent) over the academic year, with institutional support provided for scholarly activities.
The faculty member is expected to instruct a broad range of undergraduate courses in psychology as well as instruct courses within the university’s general studies program.
Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring students, engaging in scholarly activities, and supporting the university and its mission through departmental and university committee participation, program and curriculum development, and other service.
Starting Date: August 1, 2024.
